Debit Card and ATM Security

Best Practices

Security and privacy safeguards also extend to the use of your debit cards and ATMs as well. While Bangor Savings Bank invests in continuous monitoring of debit card activity to detect unauthorized transactions, there are steps you can take to better protect your Bangor Savings Bank Debit MasterCard.

Debit Cards

Just like with website credentials and account information, it is important to safeguard your debit card information. Memorize your personal identification number (PIN) and safeguard it in the same way you would a password: avoid writing your PIN down, never send debit card information by email, and don’t share the PIN with anyone else.

Before using an ATM, evaluate the machine and the surroundings before starting a transaction.

  • Find an alternate ATM to use if you feel unsafe or if the area is not well lit.
  • Do not use the ATM if the machine appears to have been tampered with in any way.
  • Avoid counting your money at the ATM.
